CandlesJust in case you have not come out of your cave, Christmas is here AGAIN!

Sometimes I really don't believe there are 365 days in a year. This must be a cruel hoax perpetrated by those people who fly the Black Helicopters in the sky and record all the texts and phone calls. Have you seen the "Stepford Wives", or "Soylent Green" or "Wag the Dog"? At best there must be 180 days in a year. I know, I count the days in my Outlook calendar, but this still could be some sort of programming gimmick.

Christmas often makes me nostalgic for the past year, as I look back and see what God has brought into my life and it usually brings me back to family. We just recently got back from California, where we had two days at Disneyland with all five grandchildren. How can that be, when I look so young, you are thinking? Well, I would like to agree with you, but either way, it was cat herding time for Geri and I. Daisy, the oldest, is now 7 and they drop down to Elizabeth, who will have to tell her what she missed, since she is only six months old right now. I am sure she had a good time as well. Then we got to all do a week in San Diego with the family, just hanging out with each other and having family time, since we do not get to see Nathan and his family often enough — as they came over from Hawaii.

You know, it takes a lot longer to go anywhere with 9 extra people — and 5 of these are small children with absolutely no concept of time and the same lack or personal organizational skill sets. We spent hours looking for shoes, specific toys, and whatever other essentials were needed for going anywhere. We had a thousand car seats to adjust and move around as well. Now a day, everyone gets a car seat or you get thrown in the slammer for not using one. But we persevered, and that was part of the process of being together as well. So we had a great time visiting places around San Diego and just "being" sometimes.

We visit my parents in South Carolina a couple of times each year, and in 2016, they are turning 90. So, my sister and brother and I are planning a get together to celebrate the turning. I remember my dad telling me that Colgroves tend to flame out early and do not get much past 65. Now you know why my dad did not work as a scheduler in a plant. He would have been terrible at it with this type of planning. Just kidding,I'm glad to have them around — as there is a lot of family history there and a connection to my past that will be gone someday.
I am sure you all have had family things this past year as well. I just wanted to share a few personal things with you, as this is the season to look back and go "WOW, where did the year go and what actually happened this year.?"

So time to raise your glass of Guinness, and toast the good things that have come your way and look forward to the next 180 days — or however many days there are in a calendar year. I still do not believe that there are really 365; it just moves too fast.
